Navigate the NYC Retrofit Ecosystem: Every Player in Building Decarbonization, on One Interactive Map

The retrofit ecosystem is famously hard to navigate. So we mapped it.

When NYC Local Law 97 turned building emissions caps into law, it also turned a quiet corner of the real estate world into a crowded, confusing marketplace. Agencies, utilities, green banks, incentive programs, advisors, engineers, contractors — every one of them touches your retrofit project, and almost nobody can explain how they all fit together.

So we built the map.

How to use it

  • Click any node to see who that player is, what they do, and who they connect to.
  • Filter by category — laws, agencies, financing, incentives, advisors, contractors — or by project stage, from “understanding your obligation” to “getting it built.”
  • Search for a specific law, program, or organization by name.
  • Switch to Directory view for a browsable list of every player with plain-English descriptions.

Why this matters for building owners

Most owners don’t fail at decarbonization because the technology doesn’t work. They stall because the process is opaque: which law applies to you, which agency enforces it, which incentives stack, who lends against the savings, and who actually does the work.

The map makes the invisible structure visible:

  1. Obligation — the laws and enforcement agencies that define what you must do, and by when.
  2. Money — the incentives, rebates, and financing programs that can cover a meaningful share of project cost.
  3. Expertise — the advisors, engineers, and contractors who turn a compliance deadline into a capital plan.

When you can see how these connect, the path from penalty exposure to positive ROI gets a lot shorter.

Where Source Forward fits

Source Forward sits at the intersection of incentives, financing, and execution. We help owners model which programs stack for their building, administer the rebates, and deliver the upgrades — EV charging, Local Law 97 compliance, energy upgrades, and more.

If the map shows you the ecosystem, we help you move through it.
